Apps like YPT (Yeolpumta) for studying with friends

If you like YPT for live timers and rankings, here is what to look for in an app like it, and what Studova offers.

Studova is a free study app with the same core idea as YPT (Yeolpumta): you join a group, start a timer, and see your friends' timers and today's study time side by side. In Studova the group is called a pod, and it is ranked on a daily leaderboard.

Studova runs in any browser, so it works on a laptop or a phone with nothing to install. It also has an Android app, and it reminds you when a study block you planned has started and you have not begun.

What to look for in an app like YPT

Most people who look for an alternative want the same few things. Friends should see your live timer. The group should have a ranking for the day. Joining should take a minute. And the app should work on the device you actually study on.

Check those four before you switch. If an app misses one, you will probably stop opening it.

How Studova covers them

Live timers: open your pod and you see who is studying right now, on which subject, and how long they have gone today. Ranking: each pod has a daily leaderboard ordered by today's study time, and you can nudge a friend who has not started.

Joining: make a pod, share the invite code or QR card, and a friend joins after a free signup. Pods are private unless the leader lists them on Find a pod. Devices: the full app runs in a desktop browser, a phone browser and the Android app.

What Studova adds

Planned study times: set when you will study each week, and Studova reminds you if a block starts and you have not begun. You also get a planner with exam countdowns, flashcards with spaced repetition, streaks with streak freezes, daily quests and weekly leagues.

A browser extension can block distracting sites while your timer runs, and the Android app can block apps.

Before you switch

Studova cannot import your YPT history, so your totals start from your first session. Your streak builds on days you finish two daily quests.

You can use both apps at the same time while you decide. Studova is free, and no card is needed to sign up.
